  5.     In a decade-long offensive a gainst campus liberalism, the
  6. staff of the independent student weekly Dartmouth Review has
  7. managed to offend women, blacks, Native Americans and
  8. homosexuals. Last week, on the eve of Yom Kippur, the Review
  9. sank to a new low by printing Hitler's boast that "by warding
  10. off the Jews, I am fighting for the Lord's work." The Dartmouth
  11. campus erupted with indignation. Though editor in chief Kevin
  12. Pritchett claimed that some unidentified culprit had sneaked
  13. the quote into print, the Review's president and two other
  14. staff members quit. Outraged students supported by faculty
  15. members organized a mass protest that brought a throng to the
  16. campus green.

  18.     Before the week ended, the controversy had spilled over into
  19. national politics. There were congressional calls for the
  20. wealthy conservatives who keep the Review afloat to cease their
  21. contributions. The incident, said Massachusetts Democrat
  22. Chester G. Atkins, was "yet another example of this
  23. publication's policy of whipping up hate."
